A client has requested the following, resulting from years of annoyance ad time wasting:

In Discover can we find a way to get the Title Block text centred? It is always off to one side unless the title is the shortest text possible, and we have to constant zoom in and out to make sure it really is centred once you edit it.

Also the text in the title block is hard to select, as it selects off to one side.

I am often using Discover to create sections through active mines which have dense drilling and multiple logged parameters.  This results in dozens of perhaps 25m spaced sections and associated level plans.  I am trying to interpret these sections interactively by following features across the sections and level plans by digitizing into different "B" tables.  If there are several down hole parameters in the drill hole project I will have hundreds of tables open to represent the sections.  As I mentioned in a previous Idea Post I may have a number of section types for each section line which further increases the number of tables open.  As a result I frequently run into trouble with having too many tables open and Mapinfo crashes or gets memory errors.  In order to reduce the number of tables I generally close the data tables for down hole parameters in the sections and leave the "A" tables.  I would like a better way to manage the data layers for each section.  In the section manager I can only see the section table layering if I want to delete a layer.  I would like the section manager to function like layer control: I would like to:
1/ Have the layers in each section shown as a list when I click on the section
2/ Be able to open and close layers interactively so I only have the ones I need open - sometimes I want to open one of the data tables so I can query it.  This is important so I can control the number of tables I have open.
3/ Be able to select a "B" layer table (with a check box) as editable or the target layer for application of pick list styles or other editing.  Currently If I swap between sections while interpreting I have to search hundreds of open tables to find the correct "B" table to apply to stles to.
I guess what i want is to include some of the functionality of Enhanced l;ayer control into the section manager.

Currently when 3D DXF files are sliced on a Discover section the follwing happens:
1/ You have to manually set an object style for the objects to be created
2/ The objects are put into separate tables if multiple objects are sliced
3/ The resulting tables all have different bounds.

I would like this changed so that:
1/  I can apply a pick list style to the objects so they can be coloured and tagged correctly when they are created (currently all objects receive the same name when sliced)
2/ I would like an option to put all of the objects into a single table  - I would also like all of the small contiguous line segments amalgamated into polylines.
3/  I would like all of the resulting sliced objects to have the same bounds as the section rather than each object.  Curently when I want to combine the objects into a single table I have to change the table bounds.

There are oftem multiple down hole parameters logged for a drill hole project and often they cannot all be represented on a single section using downhole styles without things becoming messy and confusing.  There is also a problem with controlling the draw order so that if you use a number of trace shades beside each other and some structural ticks the ticks can be hidden behind the trace shades.  I would like each section line to be represented by a number of themes (layers) which would have their visibility controlled by the section manager in which I would be able to control the order of the layers.  That way I could:

1/ Create a single drill annotation layer with depth down hole and hole names that would plot on its own and be the top layer.
2/ Have structural tick layers next so they are always on top.
3/ Have other section types below this (Lithology section, Deformation section, vein zone section etc) each with its own associated downhole style set - these layers could be turned on and off separately.
4/ Be able to plot objects down hole from a down hole table for core photos ( this can be done for core box pictures or detailed core texture pictures).  Some hotlinking tool could then be used in conjunction with a photoviewer to bring up the available or appropriate photos when the hole trace is clicked on or potentially indicate with point objects or line segments in the photo section layer where photos are available.

Quite often I have multiple tables that have different bounds that I want to combine in a single table or standardise their bounds.  At the moment I have to go through all the tables individually and change to bounds.  I would like the functionality to:
1/ Select multiple tables and have Mapinfo / Discover calculate the bounds area that covers them all
2/ Allow me to either OK the selected bounds or else let me enter my own
3/ Let me change the bounds for multiple tables at once to a common set of values.
4/ In a similar manner to the append multiple tables o[tion I would like to be able to select one master table and then select a separate list of tables and have all those tables changed to the same bounds as the master table.

When you slice 3D models to add them to Discover sections you can define the line / region styles for each object.  I find the dialog to do this very slow.  It is quicker to apply styles in the section once the objects have been created.  Then I can use a pick list to colour them.  I would like to short cut this.  I want to be able to select a picklist to use to apply styles in the dialog box where I select the objects to slice.  This is analogous to selecting downhole styles during section creation to use when the section is created.  This would save me a lot of time as I am slicing around 20 DXF models over a large number of sections.

    Hi
When I add a new DXF object or Surpac dtm to Discover 3D the view zooms out to some sort of extent of the new object.  This is very annoying as I am generally in a specific viewing position already where I want to see the new object - I just want it added to the view and not change the view.

It would be really good if I could bring my Engage 3D workspaces into Discover 3D. I don't want to have to recreate everything again for Discover.

Sometimes I would like a section cut with different envelope widths for different datasets rather than have a single enveope width.  For instance I might want a section envelope of +/- 15m to display assay data in drilling but only a 2m enveope width for the fault models in the section or the grade envelope.  i think this manly relates to being able to have a different enveope width for the drilling compared to other data.  Ideally the enveope width could be set for each data set but this might be overkill.

    Hi
In the current version of the pick list funtionality a number of functions have now been separated into different menus.  A common task for me is to manually build a geology map or interpretation or image interpretation and add the required styles as I go.  In the earlier versions of the pick list this was OK as I could add new styles relatively easily as I went.  Now each time I want a new style I have to close the menu for applying pick lists.  Start the picklist manager, add the style I want, save it, sclose that, open the apply pick lists again pick the list i want and continue working.  This is much more trouble.  I would much rather be able to add new styles in the apply pick lists menu.
In addition I still think it would be good to have a simple floating palette that you could assign th 6 most commonly used styles to so that you could just simply click on those buttons to apply a style to an object.  I would also like a list where you can set a few tables that you will want to add styles to (I generally have a filled polygon layer, a line layer and a hatch layer, but I have to find these in amongst dozens of other tables.  Maybe I could do this Via favourite tables or something similar?

    Hi There
I would like a more efficient way of setting the centre of rotation in Discover 3D.  Currently if you use the zoom for a particular layer the models will rotate around that layer object.  However, I need more control.  Like in Vulcan I would like to be able to click on part of any object and for that then to become the centre of rotation.

The 3D view manager has no useful functionality that I can see.

It would be handy if it could record details such as view direction, envelope width etc.  for individual sections in 3D.  It is tedious having to physically move the section plane to each separate section each time.  If individual sections have differente view directions or plan inclinations even more so.

If you query a feature database in Discover 3D the resultant query is added to the workspace tree but it cannot be deleted and always returns whenever you open the 3D session.
Please make it possible to delete the queries from the 3D workspace tree.

In the Section Manager there is the Settins Button which includes: Copy Selected Section, Rename Section, Delete Section, Add section Layer, Delete Section layer, Synchronize Section Lines, Previous section line.

There should be an additional option to: Save As Image. This would make it possible if you select 40 Sections, that they will be automatically stored as Image

If you first have the option to select the type of image and name the image the same as the section name, this can be very efficient.

Currently you have to Save As Image one by one, which is not efficient.

Additionally to my other idea: Add logs to section manager. If this idea is implemented + the save as image option, it would be possible to save 100 logs as image instantly!!

Both the Define New Section or Plan and the Log Display should have an option to add information from the Collar File such as:

Easting, northing, the coordinate system, relative level, end of borehole. Or other extra information such as date of drilling, the company name, the scale, the project, the geologist that did the interpretation.

This is already possible in the layout window, but time consuming. If this option is added in the Define new section or Plan and the Log display it would be possible to add this information instantly for 40 boreholes or 30 Sections, which make it very efficient.

    Hi There
Here is a good idea for all of you that have core box photos of drill core and other detail pictures of core (textures etc).  If you create a down hole table for core box photos in a core box register that contains holeID, From, To, Box  number, photo path and photo file name you can plot this table in a section.  Then you can use the hot link tool to bring up the appropriate photo when you click on the hole trace. (If you name your photos appropriately by HoleID_From_To_Box Number you can easily use an Explorer directory lister that creates a text file out of the folder lists (eg directory lister pro) to quickly compile the down hole table).  However, when I try to do this for detailed core textures at a point where to and from are the same it does not create an object or if I use a small interval it will not always select it.  I would like a point (star or similar) to be created along the trace so I can see there is a photo there and I can click on that.  A custom viewer for the photos would also be helpful as they don't open very well in the programs I have.

I work on a number of different drilling projects at the same time.  I cater for this by keeping a separate Config folder for each of the projects along with the project data.  However, some things such as the drill hole cache are not stored there.  I would like the cache and any other features associated with drillhole projects, section generation and Discover 3D keep in locations that are customisable and can be pointed to , as you can the Config folder.  Some of the drill datasets I have take 15 minutes to validate so i want to keep separate versions of a cache rather than replace a single cache.  This brings up a separate issue that I have worried about.  Because I keep separate config folders does this create any issues with upgrading.  Could I end up not being able to open older projects as those config folders were not involved in the upgrade process?

Sometimes I stuff up when posting an Idea and hit the Post Idea instead of the submit button.  If I do this everything I typed disappears and I have to do it all again - forgeting half the stuff I put in the first idea!.  I would like a warning if I want to submit the idea i have been typing before opening an new idea and the other one disappears.

I have only been using the new Mapinfo Discover 2014 bundle for a short time but I cannot see how to make a custom Structural symbol picklist.  I would like to assign different colours to symbols for different projects.  I would also like to add different versions of the same symbol - eg I may have different generations of faults for which I want to use symbol ID 31 but in different colours and sizes. I would like to add extra symbols ( copies of existing ones ) and assign them my own Discover code.  A custom symbol generator would be ideal so you could combine different forms of strike symbols with different forms of dip smbols and colours and assign your own name and code for the symbol)
