As a marine Geologist in charge of the marine sand extraction management, I’m working on an electronic model on a very large touch-screen of the Belgian marine area in Google Earth (Pro). For the sand extraction areas, I would like very much to link some zones to our 3D models/scenes established in Discover 3D (simple link from Google earth to a local .egs file). As this electronic model is dedicated to simple users / visitors, the idea must be kept very simple: one click on the link in Google Earth and the Discover 3D Viewer appears and shows the 3D scene. In the medium term, the goal is to distribute to administration, scientific institutes and private companies involved in offshore projects, the entire model (including all the Google Earth files that include links to Discover 3D scenes, the scenes with the associated files) and for this, a free viewer is required.
In this category of software, Discover 3D Viewer is an excellent viewer with lots of interesting functionalities (in particular the grid flipper is really well suited for visualizing bathymetric time series).
The link works, Discover 3D Viewer launches successfully but the 3D scene does not appear on the screen automatically. The user must open it manually, the whole point of an automatic dynamic link between a spatial object and a 3D complex scene associated with it is lost.
It is really unfortunate that Discover 3D Viewer cannot open a .egs file automatically by single link or by double-clicking. This defect should be corrected.
Link Google Earth object to Discover 3D scene

Please automatically copy user's files from old location (v2013) to new location (v2014) for compatibility

Discover 3D v2013 allowed "saved views" in the View Manager.

The folder location of these set "views" was moved in the v2014 release, but the upgrade did not copy the old saved views over to the new location, so saved views are apparently "lost".

To avoid the stress of "losing" many hours of saved views, please enable the next patch release to copy the view manager details from the old location to the new location.

For anyone who wants to do this manually, now:

    v2014 saves in <ViewManager.set> under:
    %AppData%\Encom\Discover 3D

    previously it was in:
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Encom\Discover 3D

Most long and cross sections require map rotation of the mapwindow to display the corrosponding map plan view. As grids (elevation / slope) and imagery are frequently requested - an update to the speed and functionality of this would be a big improvement (i think whats there is 15 + years old? ) For instance it does print OK when rotated - but display is terrible when it includes imagery..

Increase the functionality of the stereoplot graphs and their interactivity with map data.  Allow a cluster of readings to be selected on the stereoplot and the corresponding readings are selected in the mapper.   Add Bingham statistics to define principle axes of the data distribution.  Flexibility in defining subsets and overlaying data from different stereonets and assigning different symbol types and colours.

This is an example of a Grid clip operation that is soley for the purpose of recolouring a grid to see extra contrast, essentially reading new value limits from a smaller area. This could be solved by adding a button to use only the portion of data currently displayed on screen (or within a polygon, for those annoying non square geological features) to set the colours and shading.
This would lead to a far better grid and imagery analysis workflow in Discover, without the need to generate a multitude of extra files. Also thinking of Grids served by WMS (SRTM, GDEM) that could be used effectively without downloading data to a file.

Exaple of clip used only to recour grid.

When creating a grid using the grid calculator it is not possible to see what formula is used to make that grid. Only the name of the grid is seen.

With projects i have to continue from colleagues it can be really frustrating to find out what grid you are looking at. With showing the formula somewhere this issue can be solved easily.

So add the formula used in table information or grid information or another suitable location.

Please make it possible to contour the stereoplots produced in GraphMap.

Also, please make it possible to get the stereoplot coordinates when you move the mouse over the stereoplot and not just the coordinates of the graph image (which are of no use whatsoever).  With the stereoplot as it is it is not possible to easily get dip and dip direction information from point clusters in the stereoplots, they are essentially 'dumb'.

When making geologic cross sections for report or presentations it would be useful to be able to rotate a polygon fill pattern to match the apparent dip of the bed.  This way the bedding symbols in the pattern would reflect their attitude in space, not just the horizontal patterns available now.  If I have missed how to do this, please pont me to the proper menu.

An apparen dip calculator in the tool manager would also be helpful.

Add editing tools to modify 3D solids. After a solid has been generated often it is necessary to modify the solid to get the desired shape. I export the solid to DXF then use Surpac, AutoCAD, or Geosoft tools for modifiying the solid generated by Discover. I use functions that allow me to remove and add individual triangles/faces, fix holes, modify bifurcations, etc.

This makes it possible to include large sentences in the Sections and Logs.

Changing the map window projection is quite a common task, especially since BING layers were introduced. Instead of having to multi-click to change the projection back to the original, could we have a "revert to original projection" or "discover favourite projections" on the right mouse click?

I know this won't make a difference with the BING layer open, but if it's removed it would be an easy way to get back to the original projection, saving much time.

Ability to change the size of the size of coordinate text printed around the outside of a layout map when using “Place labels in mask polygon outside map frame”.

If you are lucky you can change it by 2 font sizes, but anymore it will shrink to some minuscule view and you probably have to make the layout again.  This just maps any map look very sloppy.  This doesn't happen in ArcGIS so why can't we have this ability in Discover?

Quite often I have multiple tables that have different bounds that I want to combine in a single table or standardise their bounds.  At the moment I have to go through all the tables individually and change to bounds.  I would like the functionality to:
1/ Select multiple tables and have Mapinfo / Discover calculate the bounds area that covers them all
2/ Allow me to either OK the selected bounds or else let me enter my own
3/ Let me change the bounds for multiple tables at once to a common set of values.
4/ In a similar manner to the append multiple tables o[tion I would like to be able to select one master table and then select a separate list of tables and have all those tables changed to the same bounds as the master table.

When you slice 3D models to add them to Discover sections you can define the line / region styles for each object.  I find the dialog to do this very slow.  It is quicker to apply styles in the section once the objects have been created.  Then I can use a pick list to colour them.  I would like to short cut this.  I want to be able to select a picklist to use to apply styles in the dialog box where I select the objects to slice.  This is analogous to selecting downhole styles during section creation to use when the section is created.  This would save me a lot of time as I am slicing around 20 DXF models over a large number of sections.

    Hi
When I add a new DXF object or Surpac dtm to Discover 3D the view zooms out to some sort of extent of the new object.  This is very annoying as I am generally in a specific viewing position already where I want to see the new object - I just want it added to the view and not change the view.

It would be really good if I could bring my Engage 3D workspaces into Discover 3D. I don't want to have to recreate everything again for Discover.

Sometimes I would like a section cut with different envelope widths for different datasets rather than have a single enveope width.  For instance I might want a section envelope of +/- 15m to display assay data in drilling but only a 2m enveope width for the fault models in the section or the grade envelope.  i think this manly relates to being able to have a different enveope width for the drilling compared to other data.  Ideally the enveope width could be set for each data set but this might be overkill.

    Hi
In the current version of the pick list funtionality a number of functions have now been separated into different menus.  A common task for me is to manually build a geology map or interpretation or image interpretation and add the required styles as I go.  In the earlier versions of the pick list this was OK as I could add new styles relatively easily as I went.  Now each time I want a new style I have to close the menu for applying pick lists.  Start the picklist manager, add the style I want, save it, sclose that, open the apply pick lists again pick the list i want and continue working.  This is much more trouble.  I would much rather be able to add new styles in the apply pick lists menu.
In addition I still think it would be good to have a simple floating palette that you could assign th 6 most commonly used styles to so that you could just simply click on those buttons to apply a style to an object.  I would also like a list where you can set a few tables that you will want to add styles to (I generally have a filled polygon layer, a line layer and a hatch layer, but I have to find these in amongst dozens of other tables.  Maybe I could do this Via favourite tables or something similar?

    Hi There
I would like a more efficient way of setting the centre of rotation in Discover 3D.  Currently if you use the zoom for a particular layer the models will rotate around that layer object.  However, I need more control.  Like in Vulcan I would like to be able to click on part of any object and for that then to become the centre of rotation.

The 3D view manager has no useful functionality that I can see.

It would be handy if it could record details such as view direction, envelope width etc.  for individual sections in 3D.  It is tedious having to physically move the section plane to each separate section each time.  If individual sections have differente view directions or plan inclinations even more so.
